Free All Hands Community Meeting & Ski Tuning Workshop!
Ski racing has faced global challenges in recent years, and the National Capital Region is no exception. Since 2020, race clubs across our region have seen a reduction in athlete participation, challenging programs to create opportunities to engage our community and regain the momentum and excitement that has always defined this vibrant community. At Ottawa Sports, we’re on a mission to change that. With our Alpine Club leading the way, we’re committed to rebuilding ski racing in the NCR and beyond—stronger, bigger, and more connected than ever. Over the next few months, our Private Events Page will focus on key initiatives to reignite passion for the sport and attract new athletes and families.
To kick things off, we’re thrilled to offer two FREE events on January 8th that will engage families, build knowledge, and set the foundation for future success:

1. "All Hands" Community Meeting
Time: 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
This interactive session will:Provide a refresher on ski racing rules, covering both new updates and long-standing guidelines.
Discuss Clean Hill Initiatives, emphasizing safe and sustainable practices.
Highlight volunteer roles that are vital to successful ski racing events, with a signup sheet available for those ready to help.
Offer an open discussion for families to share feedback and ideas for growth.
2. Ski Tuning Clinic
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Whether you’re new to tuning or looking to sharpen your skills, this hands-on workshop will:Teach essential ski tuning techniques to keep your gear in top condition.
Help you build or expand your tuning toolkit with expert advice.
Our Ski Tuning Clinic is more than just a workshop—it’s your gateway to better performance on the slopes! Parents Community Approach: BUILD - DEVELOP - SUSTAIN

Educate parents on the importance of volunteers to the success of race events and the number of volunteers required to host an event.
Encourage parents to take Level 1 official certification.
Recruit parents who do not have certifications to participate in race positions that do not require training (eg. Bib collector).
Develop and begin to implement volunteer management protocols.

Continue an education campaign with parents in the pre-season on the importance of volunteers.
Establish and communicate minimum volunteer requirements for athlete families.
Support and mentor volunteers through their training.
Establish full Volunteer Management protocols as illustrated below.
Engage with feeder clubs to help build their volunteer bases & awareness for Alpine Ski Racing.

Manage a roster of existing volunteers.
Help existing volunteers both in and out of our club to further develop their skills and maintain/upgrade their training.
Recruit new volunteers.
Maintain and update the volunteer management protocols as necessary.

Although the event is free, we kindly ask that you register in advance to help us estimate attendance. This allows us to ensure we have enough space and resources for everyone.
